The Saints’ 3-1 win at Aston Villa on Saturday made it three wins from their last five games, leaving them three points clear of the relegation zone and most definitely heading in the right direction.
Spurs were a rabble, with Dele Alli removed from the central role behind Harry Kane in which he has flourished recently, deployed on the left for much of Chelsea's early dominance. It came as no surprise when Eric Dier was removed in favour of Christian Eriksen at half-time in a belated bid to replace brawn with brain and add creation. The momentum, however, was all with Chelsea and when Son was sent off in the 62nd minutes, deservedly despite his expressions of astonishment and Mourinho's clear suggestion afterwards that Rudiger over-reacted, the contest was effectively over.
Tasked with keeping the struggling side in the German top flight, Jonker and Ljungberg achieved their objective courtesy of a relegation play-off, but were sacked six months later following a poor start to the 2017-18 season. A close follower of his time in the Bundesliga, Wolfsburg football journalist Leonard Hartmann told BBC Sport that Ljungberg commanded attention despite his quiet approach - and the club's plight.
The shy Swede with vibrant pink hair. The surprisingly private underwear model. Arsenal's new caretaker manager Freddie Ljungberg is a paradox, a far more reserved man than the bolder image many have of him may suggest. Over 12 years since departing as a player, former winger Ljungberg, 42, has been called on to save the Gunners' season following the sacking of Unai Emery. He's an Arsenal and Sweden legend, but what else do we know about the Gunners' new interim boss? The shy one?Trading Arsenal for West Ham after nine years in 2007, Ljungberg - a key figure in Arsenal's record-breaking 'Invincibles' side that went a whole Premier League season without defeat in 2003-04 - departed as a two-time Premier League and three-time FA Cup winner.
The model work he did for Calvin Klein was a bit of a surprise to everyone but he has said that it forced him out of his comfort zone, and it probably did. With that being said, he will always be a bit of a mystery. It is quite peculiar. When he spoke everyone listened'Spells in Japan and India concluded Ljungberg's 20-year playing career. The Swede returned to Arsenal as Under-15s coach in 2016 before being handed the opportunity to join then-academy manager Andries Jonker at Vfl Wolfsburg as assistant in February 2017.
It did not go unnoticed at Chelsea, however, that Mourinho, in his role as a pundit before returning to the game at Spurs, referenced their 4-0 opening weekend loss to Manchester United as he later said: "In the first weekend I was worried - and I'm still worried with the big matches. It drew a sardonic response from Lampard's right-hand man Jody Morris, who pretended to cry in an Instagram post to the background of The Verve's hit "Bitter Sweet Symphony" and posted a mocking Tweet reading "Jose Is Still Worried" with laughing emojis.
That victory at Villa Park also ended a run of five winless games away from home, but the fact is that it will be very difficult for them to build on that at Stamford Bridge. The Blues have won four of their last six Premier League games at home and have won eight of their last nine meetings with Southampton.
Tactical masterclassThis might have explained the unabashed joy as Lampard delivered a tactical masterclass to ensure almost unbroken control for Chelsea and reduce Spurs to a disorganised mess. Lampard's decision to utilise a three-man defence with Rudiger, Kurt Zouma and Fikayo Tomori appeared to take Mourinho totally by surprise, allowing Chelsea to completely overrun Spurs in midfield and give the visitors a measure of control they never looked like conceding.
He was named Arsenal's 11th greatest player of all time in 2017, yet despite his loud hairstyles on the pitch - as well as his infamous underwear modelling off it - Ljungberg is in reality a private individual. Considering the fact that he is one of our greatest of all time, we don't know a lot about Fredrik Ljungberg," Swedish football journalist Frida Fagerlund told BBC Sport. He has always been very low key when it comes to the media and other public appearances.
The three subsequent announcements over the tannoy cast a shadow over the final stages of the game - but there was no disguising Lampard's delight as he punched the air and threw his coat into Chelsea's celebrating supporters after the final whistle. This was a victory with an edge - and it is not difficult to guess why. There remains huge respect between Lampard and Mourinho after the successes they shared at Chelsea, including two Premier League titles.
It’s a mark of Lampard’s potential that, even after their recent poor form, they still sit 4th in the table despite the loss of Eden Hazard, the summer transfer ban and the fact they have fielded a large amount of unproven youngsters this season.
Chelsea only won one game at home this season by more than 2 goals difference, it was a cup game against 4th league side Grimsby in which they used mostly youngsters as they scored 7 times and won that fixture with 7-1 in the end, but they have kept quite a couple of clean sheets at home this season and West Ham should be really dominated here while Chelsea is in good scoring form.
In a previous existence, not so long ago, Jose Mourinho expressed his worries for the new-look young Chelsea and manager Frank Lampard in the big matches. Mourinho had his fears addressed in the most comprehensive manner possible as Lampard outflanked him tactically and Chelsea outclassed his new Spurs side to secure a richly deserved victory. Sadly, the win will be overshadowed by the latest allegations of racist abuse, this time aimed at Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger after he was involved in the incident that saw Spurs' South Korean attacker Heung-min Son sent off for raising a boot into his ribs.
While his introverted nature has kept him from the headlines, his status as a Swedish football icon has not wavered. Fagerlund added: "Fredrik will always be considered as one of the greatest. He did a lot for the national Team and today Arsenal is one of the most popular clubs in Sweden. He describes himself as shy but he is a strong character nowadays. That he's not driven by fame or recognition may be an advantage in his leadership.
I have to favor the guests to be getting something out of this fixture with Koln having won just 8 points all season long and not really being a great home side as I happened to watch them play very poor at home against an average Hertha Berlin side and losing that game with no less than 4-0 in the end, at the same time Augsburg defeated last round same Hertha Berlin side with no less than 4-0 themselves showing great awareness in front of goal and scoring goal after goal.
While they may not get a win, we are expecting them to give the Chelsea defence a challenge. Southampton have scored in every away game since the opening weekend of the season in the Premier League, and they’re coming up against a Chelsea defence with just three clean sheets in nine home league games to their name.
Southampton fans have had some tough times this season, most notably their horrendous 9-0 drubbing at home to Leicester back in October. That was part of a sustained eight match winless streak in the Premier League, but despite all these setbacks Ralph Hasenhuttl has slowly started to improve this team.
Chelsea were calm and in control. Spurs barely threatened and Chelsea were up and running again and in the top four after run of four defeats in their last five Premier League games. Mourinho will contest both Chelsea's goals could have been prevented as Spurs fell asleep at a short corner in the 12th minute which allowed Willian to cut inside and curl one of those trademark right-foot finishes into the bottom corner.

Chelsea have only failed to score twice at home as well, so with Southampton conceding in seven of their nine away days we think backing Both Teams to Score is a good option. In the end, we’re expecting a Chelsea win though. The visitors have conceded exactly two goals in four of their last six on the road, including against the likes of Spurs, Man City and Arsenal. The former two of those games ended 2-1 to the hosts, so backing a 2-1 win for Chelsea is attractive.
He has spoken openly about not really trusting people in general, especially not during his last few years in the Premier League. That is probably why he hasn't done so many interviews. Freddie Ljungberg signed a contract with Calvin Klein underwear while playing for ArsenalEven at home in Sweden - a country which has recently been spearheaded on the international football stage by the outspoken Zlatan Ibrahimovic - Vittsjo-born Ljungberg has maintained his mystery.
